A reader informed me that one of my favorite restaurants - Jerry's Old Town Inn - had been sold. This wasn't just any restaurant. A few years back, when friends and family asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday dinner, I picked Jerry's. It was also my favorite place to celebrate Father's Day.
So I worried. Would the new owners, Kerry and Teri Turner, change things?
I headed over to Germantown to check things out - twice. And the answer is no. Things at Jerry's are as good as ever. The pork ribs, served in portions ranging from 1 to 2 pounds ($18.95 to $30.95) are still baked so they separate from the bone easily, but remain a little chewy. And they're still slathered in that not-too-sweet, not-too-spicy sauce that former owner Jerry Grosenick perfected over almost three decades of ownership.
"It's been a dream of ours to own a restaurant for the past 20 years," Turner told me. He and Teri, his wife, live in the Holy Hill area and had looked at several possible restaurants before learning that Grosenick had the Old Town Inn up for sale. They officially took over Sept. 27.
"We tried to keep the sale a secret until we were 90 days into it," he added. That way, the Turners figured, folks would see that the food, the staff and the atmosphere were just as much fun as they'd always been. In case you've never had the pleasure of the Old Town Inn, here's a brief rundown:
Jerry's serves very good steaks and fish, but primarily celebrates the pleasures of pork ribs.
It's not a true barbecue establishment in that it doesn't have a huge hardwood-burning pit or make pork shoulder and beef brisket. But its ovens nonetheless turn out some of the best ribs you'll find in the state.

If it's good enough for Bruce Willis it's good enough for me
Many famous people have frequented this historic place in Germantown. The selection of imported beers is great, the atmosphere is awesome. Get a bib wrapped around you when you order ribs. The ribs come with a bucket for the bones. This place is fun. The ribs are outstanding and must be tried. Get a combo with a steak and you will come back for more and more. This restaurant also has surprisingly great fish. I had a red snapper and it was seasoned perfectly with cajun seasonings and it complimented the ribs beautifully. HIGHLY recommended for entertaining friends or co-workers.

Sure you can get good steaks and fish at Jerry's Old Town Inn. But Jerry's is all about the barbecue (at one time it claimed to have the "highest pork use per seat" of any U.S. restaurant). So why would you go there for anything but a slab of ribs or other form of barbecued pork with all the trimmings?

We just ate at Jerry's for the first time and loved it! I would highly recommend the ribs with the original sauce, the french onion soup and the Chocolate Mousse cake. Everything was excellent and there was plenty to eat.

Jerry's has set the bar so high that I won't even bother with ribs at another restaurant. Nobody else can even come close to Jerry's cajun ribs. My family has been going to Jerry's since I was a little kid and it is always as good as I remembered.

I've been a customer of Jerry's for 20 years and I cannot say enough about the RIBS and especially the "FRENCH ONION SOUP" it's to die for. The best in the world.. If you haven't had it believe me, it's worth it's weight in gold.
